ANIMALS ARE OUR MIRRORS. SO, WHAT IS MIRRORING?

Author: Morgan Mellick

Animals are our mirrors. They mirror back to us our ways of being so that we may attain greater understanding, healing and growth. And, yes this includes mirroring of the good and the bad.

The good: Have you ever seen an animal and their human and think to yourself, they’re so much alike in a positive way in their mannerisms and ways of being?

It’s mirroring.

The bad: Sometimes, if we are going through a hard time in our lives emotionally or physically from a divorce let’s say or major life transition, death in the family or physical illness, our animals will want to lighten the emotional and physical load for us by taking it on some of this weight we’re carrying themselves. They do this to help us.

This is also mirroring.

Our beloved animals want to heal us, support us and love us to the fullest and purest extent.

And, although mirroring is healthy when our feelings and physical selves are positive and healthy, it can be unhealthy for animals taking on negative feelings and painful physical ailments we have.

>>> So, I recommend being mindful of this. Think about the timeline of when your animal started manifesting a physical and/or behavioral issue and ask yourself does this line up with the timeline that my physical ailment or emotional situation began or before or afterwards? If it lines up, then likely you are dealing with a mirroring issue.

⭐️ Advice: If you notice mirroring may be happening, you can tell your animal aloud for example: “Fluffy (insert your animal’s name here), I’m going through (insert what this is) and I know you want to help me but, please do not take on anything emotionally or physically that I’m going through as this is mine to carry. Thank you for your support. I love you.”

Always remember: if something physical is going on with your animal, seek out a Veterinarian. This work is complimentary but never a substitute for Veterinary care.
